Recommendation:
Approve the award of a contract to Southern Paving Corp. in the amount of $142,123.17 to provide parking lot improvements at Company No. 2 Livingston Fire & Rescue Stations.  The contract has been reviewed and approved as to form by the County Attorney’s Office.

Summary:

An Invitation for Bid (IFB) was issued by the Spotsylvania County Procurement Division on April 3, 2017 to solicit bids from qualified contractors for the parking lot improvements at Company No. 2 Livingston Fire & Rescue stations.  The bids were opened on April 25, 2017.  Eight (8) bids were received for this procurement as follows:

Additional Background/Other Considerations:
This contract will provide construction services and materials to provide parking lot improvements to repair failed pavement and construct a smooth riding surface that allows for the proper surface runoff of stormwater at Company No. 2 Livingston Fire and Rescue Stations.  The project shall be completed by the Contractor within 90 calendar days as measured from the date of the Notice to Proceed.
Consequence of Denial/Inaction:
The parking lot at Company No. 2 Livingston Fire and Rescue Stations is in need of improvements.  If this project is not completed, the parking lot will gradually worsen, cost more to repair and cause continued problems.  These improvements will preserve the condition of the parking lot.
