Spotsylvania County
Board of Supervisors Agenda
Executive Summary

Meeting Date:
September 12, 2017
Title:
Government and Military Affairs Committee

Agenda Title:
Government and Military Affairs Committee
Recommendation:
If the Board wishes to participate in the Chamber of Commerce Government and Military Affairs Committee (GMAC), a representative will need to be appointed.
Summary:

The Chamber of Commerce recently parted ways with the Fredericksburg Regional Military Affairs Committee (MAC) and started a Chamber committee, the Government and Military Affairs Committee (GMAC).  Spotsylvania has been a member of the MAC for many years, and appointed Supervisor Cebula as its representative to the MAC and Deputy County Administrator Cole as an alternate.

When the Chamber started the GMAC, they assumed that Supervisor Cebula was the County's representative on the GMAC; however, the Board has not made any appointments to the GMAC.

Financial Impact:

There are no additional dues required to participate in the GMAC; paying Chamber dues allows the County to participate in a Chamber committee (FY 2018 budget includes $ 1300 for Chamber dues).  The Chamber does encourage members to support the GMAC through sponsorships ranging from $ 5000 to $ 150.  The FY 2018 budget has $ 150 budgeted for the GMAC.

Additionally, the MAC has membership dues and sponsorships that also range from $ 5000 to $ 150.  In recent years, the County has paid $ 2500 annually to the MAC and the FY 2018 budget includes $ 2500 designated for the MAC
