Recommendation: Approve the award of a contract to J. L. Kent & Sons, Inc., in the amount of $197,035 for Pump Station #43 & #16 abandonment project.
Summary:

An Invitation for Bid (IFB) was issued by the Spotsylvania County Procurement Division to solicit bids from qualified contractors for the pump station abandonment project. The bids were opened on March 30, 2018.  Five (5) bids were received for this procurement as follows:

Additional Background/Other Considerations:

The Contract has been reviewed and approved by the County Attorney’s Office.

 

The purpose of this project is to install approximately 1,600 feet if gravity sewer which will allow us to eliminate two pump stations from our sewer system and abandon approximately 2,500 linear feet of forced main. These improvements will assist us in reducing our overall maintenance and operational costs associated with the two pump stations.
Consequence of Denial/Inaction: The continued maintenance and operations cost associated with two pump stations.
