The Federal universal service Schools and Libraries Program, commonly known as the E-rate Program, helps ensure that schools and libraries can obtain high-speed Internet access and increased wifi support at affordable rates. Eligible items purchased can receive a partial reimbursement of the purchase costs which the school division then uses for the purchase additional technology items.
This request is the result of an increase in School Erate revenue collections over initial budget projections due to more purchased items being eligible for reimbursement. This will revise the FY 2018 School Erate Fund collections total from $608,000 to $866,367. The additional revenue amount of $258,367 is being requested to be appropriated to the Schools’ Technology Department for purchase of additional technology items. These purchases will include additional technology devices targeted for; core subject areas, resources for “libraries of the future”, and technology to enable schools to have the ability to stream directly into classroom projectors.
The Board of Supervisors is required to appropriate all funds before they can be expended by using departments.
