| The Finance Committee and staff recommend that the Board of Supervisors accept and appropriate the FY19 Virginia Dam Safety, Flood Prevention and Protection Assistance Grant Award to update the Motts Run Dam Break Inundation Zone Analysis, Mapping, and Digitization for Spotsylvania County and the City of Fredericksburg. |

| | | | | | | | Summary:
| The Virginia Dam Safety, Flood Prevention, and Protection Assistance Fund was established by the General Assembly to make matching grants to local governments and to private entities owning existing dams to improve dam safety and/or to assist local governments with improvements to flood prevention and protection. Grants from the Fund require a 50% cash match of the total project costs and are awarded on a competitive basis.
On July 23, 2018, Utilities was notified that the grant application has been approved in the amount of $22,875. If accepted by the Board, this funding will assist the County and the City in hiring an engineering firm to assist in the Motts Run Dam Break Inundation Zone Analysis, Mapping, and Digitization for a 90% Probable Maximum Precipitation event as required by the Code of Virginia. The estimated cost for this work is $45,751. The County and City will each provide $11,438 towards the required local match portion. Reimbursements shall not exceed the authorized project award amount or 50% of the total approved final project cost, whichever is less. Grant funds will be available for twelve months after the execution of the agreement. |
