Recommendation:
Approve contract modifications for renewals to Computer Cabling & Telephone Services, Inc. and Plexus Installations, Inc. for fiber optic cable installation. The contracts have been reviewed and approved as to form by the County Attorney’s Office.
Summary:

A Request for Proposal (RFP) #15-02-08 was issued to solicit proposals from qualified firms to provide fiber optic cable outside plant installation and/or fiber optic and copper cable inside plant installation in the County.  A contract was awarded to Computer Cabling & Telephone Services, Inc. and Plexus Installations, Inc.

This is the final renewal year of a four year renewable contract at the option of the County.

Financial Impact:
Funds are available in various department budgets.
Staff Contacts:
Jane Reeve, Director Information Services; Brad Quann, Procurement Manager
Legal Counsel:
Jessica DesNoyer, Assistant County Attorney
Additional Background/Other Considerations:

Contract modifications are signed by Contractor and County Attorney’s Office and is attached.

These contracts will allow the County to maintain and expand the fiber network.  It also provides for repairs to wiring in county buildings and adding capacity when required for additional county employees in an office.  This contract updates and clarifies provisions of the contract currently being utilized. Awarding this contract to multiple vendors will help to keep the pricing competitive and give the County a fall back option.

Consequence of Denial/Inaction:
Failure to approve this contract will jeopardize the public safety connection from the 911 center to the radio towers should repairs become necessary.  The county would be unable to add phone or data drops in offices that require them in the future.  Plans to fiber connect additional county facilities such as fire stations would halt.
