Executive Summary

Meeting Date:
AprilĀ 9, 2019
Title:
Appointment of Mark Cole as Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Coordinator

Type:
Action
Agenda Title:
Appointment of Mark Cole as Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Coordinator
Recommendation:
Recommend approval.
Summary:
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires that county government appoint an ADA Coordinator.  In recent years, this role has been filled by the Human Resources Director.  Since our currect Interim Human Resources Director is leaving, a new appointment is required.
Financial Impact:
None
Staff Contacts:
Mark Cole, Deputy County Administrator
Legal Counsel:
Shelia Weimer
Additional Background/Other Considerations:

The position was created in 1992 in response to the passage of the ADA.  In 1992 the Assistant County Administrator was appointed as ADA Coordinator.  The HR Director has been fulfilling the role of ADA Coordinator in recent years.  After discussion with HR, County Attorney's office, and County Administration, it would be more appropriate to move the position back to County Administration.  HR area of responsibilities is limited to employees while the ADA Coordinator should deal not just with employee issues, but with residents who may have issues in obtaining county services.

Consequence of Denial/Inaction:

County government would not be in compliance with the ADA.
