| | | | | | | | Summary:
| The Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) has opened the grant application process for the Virginia Telecommunications Initiative (VATI) grant for 2020. This grant opportunity allows localities to submit applications for broadband expansion to underserved and unserved areas of the county, in partnership with cabled and/or wireless service providers. The 2020 VATI grant has approximately $19 million budgeted, and is a highly competitive process. Staff is working with Comcast and Data Stream Mobile Technologies for two separate grant applications. DHCD is requiring localities to submit public notices for inclusion on DHCD's website by August 3, 2019. The public notice identifies the County's intentions to collaborate with both Comcast and Data Stream Services, culminating in two possible grant application submissions by September 3, 2019.

| The County was awarded approximately $167,000 in 2018 for expansion of broadband services to residents on Towles Mill Road; that grant process has been finalized with over 160 residents receiving Comcast service. |
