In recent years, various levels of Virginia government have been speaking out about the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP's) practice of forced organ harvesting from Chinese prisoners of conscience, which includes large numbers of followers of the spiritual practice called Falun Gong:
- At the state level, 49 bi-partisan members of the Virginia General Assembly(including Delegate Cole, Mark) last year sent a letter to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, urging US action to help stop this truly abhorrent practice.
- At the Federal level, the US House expressed its concerns about this practice in H.Res.343 in 2016. Currently, both US senators from Virginia are co-sponsoring S.Res.274 on this same issue.
- At the county level, the Fairfax and Shenandoah County Board of Supervisors adopted a motion and a resolution to educate citizens and the medical community about the practice.
On behalf of 70 local residents who signed the petition to support a similar resolution in Spotsylvania County, this resolution seeks to raise awareness of the involuntary organ harvesting in China. This is critically important now that China has become a major center for transplants, making a wide variety of human organs available with very short waiting times. Patients from around the world flock there, checkbooks in hand, to get a new cornea, kidney, lung, or heart.
In March of 2020, an international People’s Tribunal issued the China Tribunal Final Judgement concluding that Falun Gong practitioners were the main source of organs. Falun Gong teaches gentle exercises, meditation, and the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance. It has benefited more than a hundred million people around the world to attain physical, mental, and spiritual wellness. In July 1999, however, the CCP ordered the eradication of Falun Gong, and the brutal persecution of followers of Falun Gong continues to this day.
